Apple is launching Apple Upgrade, a major shift from traditional financing to true leasing in partnership with Klarna. 🔒 Personal data and files — critical steps
You are fully responsible for your data. Apple and Klarna will not back up, transfer, or recover anything.
Before returning or upgrading a device you must:
- Back up everything (iCloud + computer or external drive).
- Transfer data to the new device (Quick Start is ideal).
- Sign out of iCloud / Apple Account.
- Turn off Find My / Activation Lock.
- Erase all content and settings (factory reset).
- Remove any physical SIM and unpair Apple Watch.
Apple’s official trade-in and iPhone Upgrade Program terms state that data recovery is not provided and neither Apple nor the trade-in partner accepts liability for lost files. Treat Apple Upgrade the same way. Once the device is wiped and returned, your data is gone from that hardware forever (iCloud content remains in your account).
